The New England Chapter of the Association for Energy Engineers recently recognized IBM, PC Construction, and associated partners with the 2011 Best Overall Energy Project Award for the Wet Free Cooling System project. This project, located at IBM’s Essex Junction facility in Vermont, allows IBM to use outside winter air to produce air conditioning for its semiconductor manufacturing and related operations that require cooling year-round. The process reduces their use of electricity and water and saves the company up to $700,000 annually.

PC PILOT REACHES FLIGHT MILESTONE

November 29, 2011

Our Director of Flight Operations, Don Ingham, has had a major goal throughout his 41 years with the company – to fly into all of the lower 48 states on company-assigned missions. On November 22, he was finally able to put a big check on his to-do list when the wheels of the PC jet touched down at Tulsa’s Riverside Airport in Oklahoma, the last of the 48 states needed to accomplish his own personal goal. Not one to bask in the glory of success, Don is already working toward his next objective – logging 25,000 hours of flight time, which he expects to reach next year.

CECIL GRANTED DBIA CERTIFICATION

October 7, 2011

Mike Cecil, our Director of Business Development for the Water Treatment market, has earned the status of Assoc. Designated Design-Build  Professional by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). This certification is achieved through demonstrated knowledge of design-build and alternative project delivery methods through education, experience, and examination. Mike joins PC Project Executives Mike Angeli and Rick Fisher who both achieved the Designatated Design-Build Professional certification in 2010.

DBIA is the industry’s preeminent resource for leadership, education, objective expertise, and best practices for the successful integrated delivery of capital projects. The institute promotes the value of design-build project delivery to ensure success for owners as well as design and construction practitioners.

The use of integrated delivery methods is rapidly gaining popularity and acceptance because owners realize the importance of collaboration between their teams and the designer and contractor. An important aspect of design-build and Construction Management at Risk project delivery is the integration of the contractor with the engineering firm during the design phase of a project.

Some current and recent alternative delivery projects for PC Construction include the Hopewell Water Treatment Plant, H.L. Mooney Water Reclamation Facility, Yellow River Water Reclamation Facility, and DC Water Main Process Train.

WHERE WERE YOU?

September 11, 2011

Where were youI have heard this question so many times in the past few weeks and everyone seems to instantly understand the reference. Even more, we all remember right where we were and exactly what we were doing when we heard about or witnessed the dreaded attacks on September 11, 2001.

For me, I was just entering my second month working at PC and was deep in concentration typing a letter. Someone mentioned that a plane had crashed into a building in New York but, at that point, the true magnitude of the situation had not yet come to light. The hours that followed were heart-wrenching. PC CONSTRUCTION HONORS SUPERINTENDENT WITH KILBOURN-SAWYER AWARD

May 13, 2010

Today PC Construction recognized Senior Superintendent Wayne DeLong’s dedication and achievements with the 2010 Kilbourn-Sawyer Award. The award, named in honor of two long-time Superintendents, is presented to a superintendent who demonstrates outstanding performance in a range of areas, including PC Construction’s core values, and who also displays a commitment to the company’s systems, policies, and procedures.

Wayne joined the PC Construction team in 2006 as a superintendent on the Linwood Water Reclamation Facility Upgrade project in Georgia. He later moved on to the Yellow River Water Reclamation Facility project, where he clearly demonstrated his strong leadership capabilities. Wayne was quickly promoted to Senior Superintendent and now successfully leads a team of superintendents, while also taking time to mentor up-and-comers at PC Construction. He also takes safety seriously and that effort was recently recognized with a Ron Amerson Supervisor Safety Award by the Georgia Branch of the AGC for his role in supervising one of Georgia’s safest jobsites.

Said Project Executive Rick Fisher: “Wayne has such a great mechanical sense for how treatment plant projects go together and, at the same time, understands how to motivate people and get everyone moving in the same direction while keeping the project on track. He’s truly become a great leader.”

Wayne joins a distinguished group of superintendents as past recipients of the Kilbourn-Sawyer Award, including Jody Atkins (2004), Jim Bergloff (1997), Bernie Demag (1998), Rick Fisher (1999 and 2005), Mike Flood (2009), Mike Franzoni (2006), Ray Moran (2008), Bill Lawrence (2002), Seth Lehman (2003), Mark Selig (2007), and Chris White (2000).

TEAM NATALIA MARCHES FOR BABIES

May 6, 2010

If you ask people why they believe in or support a cause, most will say it is because they or someone they know were profoundly affected by it. That is certainly the case for me and my family. In 2009, my daughter was born 15 weeks premature. Weighing just 1 pound 10 ounces, we watched her struggle through her 105-day stay in the neonatal intensive care unit. During that time, the March of Dimes provided my family with support, education, and even basic necessities that helped us through each day. When we left the hospital with our daughter in our arms, we vowed never to forget those who helped us make it through such difficult times.

On Saturday, May 1, we had our first opportunity to give back. My husband and I, joined by our 8 team members, including fellow PC Construction employees Stacy Tomko and Sara Stromme, walked a four-mile route in downtown Burlington, Vermont, for the annual March for Babies. With corporate support from PC Construction as well as donations from over 40 PC Construction co-workers, and countless friends and family members, our team raised over $4,300. It was especially gratifying to give back to an organization that gave so much to us.
